Golf legend Inbee Park, track and field legend Felix, and IOC Athletes’ Commissioner each have their say

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today released a list of 32 candidates for IOC Athlete Commissioner, including Inbee Park and Alison Felix (USA), on its website.

South Korea’s term as IOC Athletes’ Commissioner will end with the Paris Games. Yoo is joined by Yelena Isinbayeva (Athletics-Russia) and Britta Heidemann (Fencing-Germany).

Park and Felix’s names stand out among the 32 candidates for the new IOC athletes’ commission. US sports media outlet ESPN has also highlighted them as potential candidates.

Inbee Park is a “legend” on the U.S. Women’s Professional Golf (LPGA) Tour with 21 career victories, including seven majors. She won a gold medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where golf was reinstated as an official sport, completing a “golden career slam.

Felix is an Olympic track and field legend, having won seven gold medals in the sprint events. With three silver and one bronze medal, she is the most decorated women’s track and field athlete of all time. She was most prominent in the relay events. She stood on top of the podium four times in a row, starting in Beijing in 2008, followed by London in 2012, Rio de Janeiro in 2016, and Tokyo in 2021.

Other nominees include former Olympic gold medalists Aaron Szilágyi (fencing-Hungary), Mariana Pajón (cycling-Colombia), Valent Sinković (rowing-Croatia), Kahena Kunz (sailing-Brazil), Sheikh Salah Cisse (taekwondo-Côte d’Ivoire), Jessica Fox (canoe-Australia), and Paula Pareto (judo-Argentina).
