Korean soccer ‘legend’ Park Ji-sung also criticized the appointment of the Korea Football Association (KFA) and the national soccer team coach.
Park stood in front of reporters after finishing a cultural event called “MMCA Play: Junior Futsal” at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul on Wednesday. “The last expectation was five months ago that we would set the system straight and move forward,” Park said. “Now the system itself has completely collapsed. We announced that we would form a committee to strengthen our capabilities and take proper appointment procedures, but we failed to do so in the end.”
The Korean national soccer team has been searching for the next coach since Jurgen Klinsmann was replaced. The team played in March and June under the interim coach system. The committee set up a list of nearly 100 coaches, but appointed Hong Myung-bo after the event.
“Whenever there were calls for the appointment of a domestic coach for five months, public opinion and evaluation were not good enough,” Park said. “Players would have expected that they would not appoint a domestic coach, but it would be quite embarrassing. It is a time when the best players in the history of Korean soccer are included. Not only soccer players but also soccer fans would feel most sorry. I feel sorry for him. As a senior player, I should have created an environment where younger players can show off their skills in a better environment.”
Park Ji-sung, who said, “I feel so miserable that I can’t say anything,” pointed out, “Working at the KFA has become something no one wants to do at the moment. Regardless of the result, we have to explain why it had to be like this in the process.” 토토사이트
As for Park Joo-ho, who was active on the former committee and spoke honestly about the meeting process through his YouTube, he said, “I think there must have been a great sense of helplessness that there was no need to be there as a loan. In the end, if the administrative process is not transparent and there is no right system, it will not be possible to properly utilize good talent.”
Park also expressed his stance on senior coach Hong Myung-bo and chairman Chung Mong-gyu. “Even if we start with high expectations after the new coach takes office, we cannot be certain of success. I wonder if such a situation has persisted since the appointment of the coach. To be honest, it is true that I am worried about how to overcome it,” Park said, expressing his agreement with the public criticism against Hong.
“I have a lot of opinions on the chairman, but I honestly don’t know how far I can go with external pressure in the absence of related regulations,” he said. “We need to re-establish trust in the association in the long run. There is no doubt that if the answer is correct in that situation, it should be done. In the end, it is clear that the chairman has to choose himself,” he stressed.
