Kim Young-gun, 6th Korean Gold Medal…Won Yoo-min was elected as an IPC athlete

South Korea’s team participating in the 2024 Paris Paralympics won its sixth gold medal of the tournament on the 7th (local time), a day before the closing ceremony.

Kim Young-gun (Gwangju Metropolitan City Hall) won the men’s table tennis singles (sports grade MS4) final at South Paris Arena 4 in Paris, France, on the 7th (6-1 11-0 11-7 9-1 11-5) after a close game in full set.

With Kim Young-gun’s victory, South Korea exceeded its target record (five gold medals) set before the opening of the tournament.

Kim Young-gun, who has collected gold medals since the 2004 Athens Paralympics, tied for second place with five gold medals overall, the most by a Korean player in the Paralympics.
First place is Lee Hae-gon, who won seven.

Kim Jung-gil (Gwangju Metropolitan City Hall), who competed in the same event, lost to his neighbor in the semifinals and received a bronze medal.

Paralympic table tennis does not play the bronze medal match and gives bronze to all the players who lost in the semifinals.

A day before the closing, South Korea added one gold and one bronze medal in table tennis alone.

By the 7th, he will finish 20th with 6 gold medals, 10 silver medals, and 14 bronze medals.

On the 8th, when the closing ceremony will be held, men’s marathon Yoo Byung-hoon (Gyeongbuk Sports Council for the Disabled) and women’s weightlifting Yang Jae-won (Chungbuk Sports Council for the Disabled) will hunt for the last medal.

Choi Yong-beom (Dowon ENC), a former non-disabled canoeist, ranked eighth in the men’s kayak 200m final with a time of 41.91 seconds.

He made the final stage of the Paralympic Games a year and a half after the accident, raising expectations for a medal at the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympic Games.

Jo Gi-seong, a three-time swimming champion at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Paralympics, ranked 14th with a time of 54.75 seconds in the men’s 50m backstroke (Sport Grade S4), his last event in the competition.

As he moved away from the lead at the 25m mark, he relaxed and continued the race slowly.

After the game, Jo Gi-seong said, “I swam slowly to capture many scenes in my eyes because it was a competition I will never step on again, and to stay in the swimming pool as long as possible.”

Jo Gi-seong will retire from the national team after this tournament. 스포츠토토

Jeong Yeon-sil (Pyeongtaek City Hall) ranked 6th out of 8 in the women’s 73kg weightlifting (powerlifting) competition by lifting 100kg.

Yoo Won-min (36), the first Paralympian naturalized citizen, was named on the list of athletes elected by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

Won Yoo-min received a total of 296 votes in a vote for participating athletes from the 26th to the 5th of last month during the Paris Paralympic Games, becoming the top six athlete committee member with the fourth-most votes.

The IPC Athletes’ Commission, which was established during the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, sets direction and speaks out on behalf of athletes in the world’s disabled sports policy. The term of office is four years.
