Iraq beats Oman to leap to second place in Group B…a three-point gap with South Korea

Iraq overpowered Oman and ranked second in Group B of the third Asian qualifying round for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North Korea and China.

Iraq won 1-0 in Group B of the third qualifying round for the North-China World Cup in Asia against Oman at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat, Oman on the 20th (Korea time).

With this result, Iraq recorded three wins, two draws and one loss (11 points), and ranked second by defeating Jordan (nine points), which was tied 1-1 with Kuwait. The gap with Korea (4 wins, two draws, 14 points), the leader of Group B, which only had a 1-1 draw with Palestine, has narrowed the gap to three points.

The teams ranking first and second in each group will qualify for the World Cup finals. The teams ranking third and fourth will play in the fourth round and compete for the remaining 2.5 teams.

Oman finished fourth with two wins and four losses (six points).

In ball possession ratio, Iraq was lagging behind Oman with 42:58. The total number of shots fired was five, four less than Oman with nine.

However, Iraq did not miss the opportunity that it had for them and scored a goal. In the 36th minute of the first half, Youssef Amin flooded in with a low and fast cross that Ahmed Yashin connected from the left side, shaking Oman’s net.

Oman fought back, but the decisive shot failed to tie the score in the end by leaving the post or being blocked by an Iraqi goalkeeper.

Jordan, who was in second place in the group until the fifth round of the group stage, failed to keep its lead in Kuwait’s away match and drew 1-1 to become third.
Jordan led by Yazan Al-Nuimat’s goal in the 21st minute of the first half, but lost to Mohammad Daham in the 23rd minute of the second half and missed the victory. 먹튀검증
