Samsung Lions infielder Lee Hae-seung (24), a professional baseball whose strength is stable defense based on solid basic skills, has returned from his duty of defense.
Lee Hae-seung, who joined Samsung in 2019 after graduating from Incheon High School, made his debut in the first division in 2022. Although he made his debut in the first division belatedly, he has been evaluated as competitive enough in the first division as well as defense capabilities. 스포츠토토
Stable defense based on solid basic skills is Lee’s biggest advantage. His comment reminds him of coach Park Jin-man, who was praised as a “national shortstop” during his active days. While serving in the military at Sangmu, he not only improved his skills but also strengthened his mental strength.
Lee Hae-seung is preparing for the next season by stamping his stamp on his way to work at Daegu Samsung Lions Park every day. “I will come back with upgraded attack and defense,” he said before joining the military. “There are some parts that have improved (from before joining the military), but there are still so many things to supplement,” he humbly said.
He added, “I am trying to improve my mental as well as technical aspects. I am fascinated by reading books at Sangmu. I tend to read books on my mental state often. I have a habit of writing impressions after reading books, which seems to be helpful.”
Players from the first division or promising players from each club are gathered in Sangmu. Lee said, “I tried to grow by accepting the strengths of my teammates. In particular, talking frequently with my roommate Han Tae-yang (Lotte Giants infielder) helped me a lot.”
I often asked “Jamsil Big Boy” Lee Jae-won (LG Twins outfielder) and “Post Lee Dae-ho” Han Dong-hee (Lotte Giants infielder) how to bat well. “Jaewon came up first and gave me some advice. Your encouragement, ‘You are the best. You can do it with confidence,’ really helped me a lot,” Lee said. “I often asked (Han) Dong-hee for advice on batting.”
Lee Hae-seung said, “I have a lot of thoughts, but I want to swing as simple and bold as possible at bat. I realized that thinking a lot doesn’t improve anything.”
Samsung’s infielders are young and solid, with Lee Jae-hyun and Kim Young-woong, who were born in 2003, establishing themselves as the main infielders. As such, Lee Hae-seung faces even higher barriers to entering the first division.
In response, he said, “It is true that the infield depth has become more solid than before joining the army, but I think it is important how much I try. If I am well prepared, I will do my best in what I have to do because the opportunity will come somehow.”
