Samsung Lions manager Park Jin-man, who caught the LG Twins with eight home runs in Game 1 and 2 of the professional baseball playoffs (PO, three wins out of five) at Samsung Lions Park in Daegu, seemed to be disappointed when a hit that almost became a home run at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul became a foul.
“I was disappointed by Lewin Diaz’s foul home run,” Park said in an official interview after losing 0-1 to LG in the third round of the PO at Jamsil Stadium on Wednesday. “I was disappointed because of the foul. With one out and one on the first base in the fourth inning of the 0-0, Diaz drew a large parabolic ball that flew to the right by scooping up the body of LG starter Lim Chan-kyu.
The ball deflected out of the right pole at the last minute. The video review, just in case, showed the bending scene more clearly.
Manager Park admitted that LG’s starting pitcher Lim Chan-kyu and reliever Elijah Hernandez, who tied Samsung’s batting lineup to scoreless goals, had good pitching, and said, “We played against Hernandez for the first time this season, and I think Hernandez took a good rest than I thought. Hernandez, who played as a starting pitcher during the regular season, never pitched in a game against Samsung this year.
“The bullpen pitchers defended well as they had planned, and we prepared to manage the bullpen in a timely manner,” coach Park said. “Kim Yoon-soo is so confident in Austin Dean that I planned to use him even before the game when such a moment comes. I have faith in him because he defended well.”
Samsung’s fireballer Kim Yoon-soo faced Austin in the first to third rounds of the PO and cooked with a strikeout, a ground ball and a fly ball.
Coach Park, who lost one game after two wins, vowed to get a ticket to the Korean Series with an all-out bullpen game, saying, “The starting pitchers Denny Reyes (Game 4) and Won Tae-in (Game 5) are perfectly built.”
