Former national team coach Huh Jung-moo, who led the team to the round of 16 at the 2010 South Africa World Cup, is running for president of the Korea Football Association.
“I thought deeply about it for a week and decided to go for it last,” Huh said on Wednesday. “I will officially announce detailed plans within this week.” The report was reported by Yonhap News.
Former coach Huh added, “I thought let’s speak for the stories of footballers and lay the foundation for soccer players to integrate.”
Former coach Huh led the national team to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and achieved the first-ever ” advance to the round of 16 at the away tournament.”
Former coach Huh, who experienced the European stage while playing for PSV Eindhoven (the Netherlands) in the early 1980s, transformed into a leader in 1990 and coached K-League teams such as Jeonnam Dragons and Incheon United.
He turned into an administrator in the 2010s. Heo served as vice president of the Korea Football Association from 2013 to 2014 and also served as vice president of the Korea Professional Football Association from 2015 to 2019.
From 2020 to last year, he led Daejeon Hana Citizen as chairman.
While Chairman Chung Mong-kyu, who is expected to challenge for the fourth term, has not made a specific position, former coach Huh became the first person to express his intention to challenge the president of the 먹튀검증 Korea Football Association.
The election will take place on Jan. 8 next year. Born on Jan. 13, 1955, Heo will hold the election five days before his 70th birthday. There is no problem with the association’s rules that set the age limit for candidates to be under 70.
The election commission will run until Dec. 12. The three-day registration period starts from Dec. 25, with the new chairman’s term starting from the regular general meeting on Jan. 22, 2025 after the election.
Accordingly, Chairman Chung’s third term will run until January 21 next year.
In order for Chung to run for the fourth term, he must inform the association of his intention to register as a candidate by April 2. Chung has yet to apply for a second term at the Korea Sports Council’s Sports Fair Committee.
