‘Emperor’ Woods, who challenged to win for the first time in five years, ‘Knees’ with son Charlie

Woods and Charlie Booza combined for a 15-under 57 by sweeping a hole-in-one and 13 birdies in the final second round of the PNC Championship of the PGA Tour Champions event held at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club (par 72) in Orlando, Florida on the 23rd (Korea time).

Woods, who had a final total of 28 under par 116, tied for the lead with Langer Booza to advance to overtime, and gave up the trophy to Langer Booza, who caught an eagle in overtime.

In the PNC Championship, 20 winners of major tournaments will play in a 36-hole scramble method for two days (two players each tee-shot and pick one ball in a better position and both will play the next shot on the spot).

It is the fifth time that Woods and Charlie have participated in the championship together. They have competed every year since 2020, and their best performance was the runner-up in 2021. Woods, who showed his willingness to win in the final round by wearing Woods’ iconic red top, tried to win his first title, but unfortunately lost in overtime and finished second.
In the first hole of the extension at the 18th hole (par 5), Charlie, who grew as tall as his father Woods, sent his driver tee shot 292 yards only to carry (the first point where he fell to the fairway) and swung a long shot.

Since Woods’ driver tee shot earlier fell into the bunker, Woods Booza picked Charlie’s ball that landed cleanly on the fairway as the point to play his second shot.

With 204 yards to go, Charlie shot his second shot with an iron to drop the ball at the entrance of the green just short of the green. Galleries cheered loudly. Woods’ second shot went slightly off the right side of the green.

Langer’s son Jason sent his second shot to the left of the pin from 180 yards to create the perfect eagle opportunity.

Unfortunately, both Woods and his son failed in the eagle putt at the point where Woods sent the ball. Charlie’s putt that he tried first passed after hitting the hole. It was such a waste of putt that Charlie was on his knees and felt sorry for. Woods’ putt missed the left side of the hole.

On the other hand, Langer confirmed his win by calmly making an eagle after seeing Jason’s line, although his son Jason failed to putt an eagle. It was Langer and his son’s sixth win at the championship. Langer raised his arms and was so happy that he missed the putter he was holding. Woods also congratulated Langer with a big smile. 안전놀이터

Although it was an event, it was regrettable for Woods, who won his 82nd career PGA Tour victory in October 2019 and then attempted to win the title for the first time in five years. Since suffering a serious leg injury in a car accident in 2021, Woods has played in only 13 PGA Tour events in the past four seasons. He did not participate in the championship after the DeOpen Championship in July this year, and even underwent back surgery in September. This was the first official championship that he participated in in five months after back surgery. The entire family played with his 15-year-old son Charlie, and his 17-year-old daughter Sam caddied for the second consecutive year.

Charlie recorded a hole-in-one at the regular round, drawing keen attention from the public. Charlie’s tee shot fell gently onto the green at Hole 4 (par 3), and rolled into the hole to become a hole-in-one. When he learned the hole-in-one, Charlie asked again, “Did you go in?” and hugged Woods, rejoicing. It was Charlie’s first hole-in-one.

“It was amazing. I thought it didn’t go in. I couldn’t believe it until I went up on the green and saw it for myself,” Charlie said in an interview that went on immediately.
