Djokovic takes 2-1 revenge on Holger Rune as he looks to win ’40th’ ATP Masters 1000 title

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic (36, Serbia) has reached the quarterfinals with a hard-fought revenge win over No. 7 Holger Lune (20, Denmark).

The singles quarterfinals of the Rolex Paris Masters 2023, part of the ATP Masters 1000 Series, continued on Wednesday at the Accor Arena in Paris, France.

Djokovic defeated Lune 2-1 (7-5, 6-7<3-7>, 6-4) in a two-hour, 54-minute match. Djokovic was runner-up in the singles final at this event last year, losing to Raonic. This brings their head-to-head record to 2-2.

Djokovic is just two wins shy of his 40th ATP Masters 1000 Series title. He is 48-9 at the Paris Masters and an impressive 31-1 on hardcourts this year.

Djokovic’s quarterfinal opponent will be world No. 5 Andrei Rublev (26-Russia). In the other quarterfinal, No. 17 Grigori Dimitrov (32-Bulgaria) will face No. 6 Stefanos Tsitsipas (25-Greece).

After the match, Djokovic said: “It was a very similar match to last year’s final. I played a terrible tiebreak in the second set, probably the worst of the year,” he said.

He added: “Hats off to Rune again for being mentally tough and playing a solid match. We play a similar game. She moves well, she defends well, she’s an all-around player.” 캡틴토토

Djokovic said of Lune: “I’ve been playing much better in the last few weeks since I started working with coach Boris Becker. It was strange to see Boris in the opponent’s box. I wish him and Holger the best of luck.”
