Chairman Chung Mong-kyu (62), who is seeking his fourth consecutive term as the president of the Korea Football Association, officially announced his candidacy.
Chairman Chung held a press conference to announce his candidacy for the 55th president of the Korea Football Association at the Conference Hall of the Ponijeong Foundation in Sinmun-ro, Seoul on the 19th, and said, “I wanted to put it down, but I didn’t think I was doing my job as a person who worked hard for a lot of people and soccer development for 12 years.”
“I fully understand the demands of fans who oppose the renewal of the term,” Chung said. “I will accept the criticism of the wrongdoings without any addition or subtraction and use it as nourishment for development. I will never forget the voices of the fans who criticized me at the stadium. I will do my best to resolve the issue.”
In the meantime, he pledged to restore trust in the association through ▲ drastic reform ▲ improve international competitiveness in Korean soccer ▲ complete the Cheonan Football Center as a platform for the development of the soccer industry ▲ successfully establish a video platform system. 메이저놀이터
Chairman Chung, who will seek a fourth term after passing a second term review by the Korea Sports and Fair Commission (Fair Commission) of the Korea Sports and Olympic Committee on the 11th, will compete with Heo Jung-moo, former chairman of Daejeon Hana Citizen, and Shin Moon-seon, professor of Myongji University, who previously announced his candidacy.
The press conference attracted so much attention that reporters gathered an hour before the event was held. If it were not for Yoon Suk Yeol’s declaration of emergency martial law or impeachment, it would have been the biggest issue on the day.
Although it is widely expected that he will be elected as an active chairman, the uncomfortable relationship with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, which demanded Chung’s heavy punishment, is the biggest obstacle. This is because the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism can take hard-line measures such as imposition of fines and reduction of subsidies, starting with the inability to approve the election of Chairman Chung.
In response, Chung said in a press conference, “The justification for the penalty is weak. I don’t think the government will cut subsidies without reason. I will persuade the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism well,” adding, “I think various misunderstandings have led to the ministry’s audit. I will resolve the misunderstanding well.”
Asked whether Chung Mong-gyu must complete the completion of the soccer center or the division system, he said, “There is no such thing as having to do it only by someone. The Korea Football Association has to invest 170 billion won more, but it has invested about 70 billion won now. Cheonan City has invested more than 200 billion won. I will be able to persuade the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism well in the future. I am confident in persuading stakeholders well for the completion of the division system.”
Reporters at the scene were also puzzled when Chung said he could persuade the culture ministry. The ministry demanded heavy punishment from Chung. Rather than resolving suspicions clearly, he defined them as misunderstandings and continued to make remarks to the effect that he is confident in persuading them unconditionally. This is a difficult part to sympathize with.
“I was just in case,” said a soccer official who watched the press conference. Heo’s side also pointed out that it was nothing more than a desperate sophistry to declare his candidacy.
If the ministry fails to persuade the public, it will not be easy to persuade the public. Chairman Chung said, “I will conduct an open administration to communicate with the public to restore trust in the Korea Football Association.” However, he does not have high expectations.
However, the final opportunity is an open discussion with Heo and Shin. We hope that Chung will not forget that it is his last chance to appeal to the president’s ability and sincerity toward Korean soccer, and that he will try to persuade soccer fans as well as the public with words that can be more understandable.
