The temporary home stadium that Oakland Athletics will use in the preparation stage for relocation of their ties from the 2025 season is already in trouble.
Agent Scott Boras pointed out the problem of Sutter Health Park, which will be the temporary home of Athletics, in an interview with Sacramento-area radio station “KFBK” on the 12th local time.
“There is not a single outdoor stadium that has installed artificial turf in the Major League. All of them are indoor stadiums,” he said, raising issue with Sutter Health Park’s installation of artificial turf during the remodeling process.
“I also played on artificial turf when I was a minor league player. If you play on artificial turf outdoors, the temperature of the ground can rise from 120 degrees Celsius to 130 degrees Celsius (48.9 to 54.4 degrees Celsius),” he said, adding that the artificial turf installed at outdoor stadiums will affect the health and safety of players. 메이저놀이터
The Athletics, which is seeking to relocate its base from Oakland to Las Vegas, will use Sacramento, a city near Oakland, as its temporary base until its Las Vegas home stadium is built.
Sutter Health Park, home to the San Francisco Giants’ Triple-A Sacramento Rivercats, is used as a temporary home ground.
Sacramento, which is farther inland than Oakland, is notorious for its heat waves in midsummer. For the past 12 days, the average temperature soared to 107.5 degrees Fahrenheit (41.9 degrees Celsius), with the highest temperature reaching 113 degrees (45 degrees Celsius). When the Rivercats were playing, the temperature of 102 degrees (38.9 degrees Celsius) was recorded as of 7:05 p.m. at the start of the game. Yolo High Wolers, a team playing in Davis near Sacramento, postponed its game to 10 a.m. to avoid the heat.
Boras went one step further and raised the possibility that Athletics would stay in Oakland. “As far as I know, the new company that will have the Coliseum is willing to negotiate with Athletics. Athletics will also be fully guaranteed the broadcast rights contract (if they stay in Oakland). It could be a better deal,” he said.
Introducing Boras’ remarks, KFBK predicted that the relocation plan may be canceled, saying that Athletics’ use of Sacramento as a temporary base has not yet obtained the consent of the Major League Baseball players’ union.
After the report, the Major League Baseball Secretariat refuted their report in a statement.
“As planned, the Athletics will play in Sacramento during the 2025 season. Together with the players’ union, the Secretariat is continuing productive cooperation regarding details of relocation,” the secretariat said.
The Athletics said, “The safety and health of players are the most important issue. The labor and management of the Major League Baseball are continuously having discussions about our plan to relocate to Sacramento. The stadium facilities have begun and will continue during the offseason to prepare for the opening game of the 2025 season.”
The Major League Baseball players’ union made a short stance, saying, “Talks with the secretariat are still ongoing.”
