Jeon Kyung-hoon (50) chairman of the Korea Federation of Business Badminton is challenging to become the head of the Korea Badminton Association. He shed tears at the tears of Ahn Se-young (aged 22, Samsung Life Insurance), the “badminton queen,” and said, “I made a decision to lead the whole country.”
Jeon announced his candidacy for the Badminton Korea Association presidential election after releasing a press release through the Badminton press corps on Sunday. “I was fascinated by the touching performance of Ahn Se-young, the hero of Paris who gave Korean badminton an Olympic gold medal for the first time in 28 years, and I was determined to manage the association in a transparent manner while watching Ahn point out problems with the association’s injury management, player development and training methods, and participation in competitions,” Jeon said.
Later in the day, Chairman Jeon expressed his thoughts in more detail at a press conference. “I saw Ahn Se-young shed tears after winning the gold medal at the Paris Olympics and a post posted on social media saying, ‘I desperately hope there are adults who can solve this situation,'” Chairman Jeon said. “At the same time, I also shed tears.”
“Since then, I have asked myself what an adult is and whether I can play that role for the entire association,” Chairman Jeon said. “I finally got the answer by asking people around me and referring to data and so on, and I decided to become that adult.” This is why I challenged the president of the association again in about a year after becoming the head of the unemployment association in July last year.
After winning the gold medal in women’s singles at the Paris Olympics, Ahn criticized the association and the way the national team was run. In response, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism demanded the association’s dismissal and severe disciplinary action for the secretary general, along with ordering the association to correct its rules and operation.
In response, the association issued a press release on the 23rd, saying, “We have actively collected opinions from national team players and revised some absurd operating guidelines, and we are coordinating opinions with suppliers of supplies to change the terms of the contract.” Regarding the ministry’s criticism of violation of the subsidy law, it also said that it was implemented in accordance with the regulations. However, on the 28th, the police launched an investigation in earnest by issuing a warrant for confiscation of the association’s president Kim Taek-kyu, who is suspected of embezzling and malpracticing sponsored goods, and securing mobile phones.
Jeon pledged to support the association 2.4 billion won (2.4 million U.S. dollars) for four years. “We initially thought of 2 billion won, but we increased it by 400 million won to match the amount of support for both professional and daily sports,” Jeon said. “We will provide 300 million won in each field every year to make efforts for joint development.” Former pharmacist, Jeon established the rice soup franchise Passion Korea in 2022 and has led the company to become the No. 1 Korean rice soup brand with 250 franchises.
Former entrepreneurial figures have contributed money to the association. Lee Hyung-do, then mayor of Samsung Electro-Mechanics and the 26th and 27th chairman of Daekyo Group, Kang Young-joong. Since then, there has been no contribution from the chairman due to large donations from equipment makers such as Victor and Yonex.
Jeon also said he would build a stadium dedicated to hosting international competitions and actively participate in the bid to host the World Championships. The plan is to benefit local hobbyists through a one-on-one sponsorship agreement between companies and 17 metropolitan and provincial associations, and to attract a league in the Seoul metropolitan area to increase public interest. 메이저놀이터
In response, Chairman Jeon said, “I started playing badminton at the recommendation of my client when I was a pharmacist, and I fell in love with it enough to go from Jamsil in Seoul to Uijeongbu to exercise,” and added, “I was thinking about what I could do for my favorite badminton, and then I sponsored the business league and became the president of the federation.” He added, “I am confident that I will achieve joint growth as I know both elite and daily sports well while working as a member of the Federation of Industries.”
In the next presidential election, Kim Dong-moon, a former Olympic gold medalist and Won Gwang-dae professor, has announced his intention to run, while Kim Taek-kyu, the current chairman, is also expected to seek re-election. Kim, a former athlete, is expected to be supported by athletes and Kim is expected to be supported by hobbyists.
In response, the former chairman is also considered to have relatively low recognition among badminton players who have the right to vote as the chairman of the unemployment federation is about a year old. In response, the former chairman expressed confidence, saying, “I will meet some key people next week,” and added, “I think the sincerity to lead the association fairly without interest or self-interest will work.”
The election for the head of the Badminton Korea Association, which is drawing more attention than ever due to the scandal involving Ahn Se-young’s determined remarks, remains to be seen who will lead the badminton team on January 16 next year.
