“You can’t do that, consistently with one form…” Ryu Hyun-jin’s special advice to Moon Dong-joo and Kim Seo-hyun, prerequisites for a long run

“You can’t do that. I hope you keep doing it with just one form.”

During off-season, Ryu Hyun-jin (37, Hanwha Eagles) appears on baseball players’ YouTube videos to show off his talk. The most common question is about younger pitchers from the Hanwha Eagles. Whenever he does, he always mentions Moon Dong-ju (21) and Kim Seo-hyun (20).

Moon has struggled this year. He already spent his third year in the league, but he had seven wins and seven losses and an ERA of 5.17 in 21 games. It was slower than his second year with eight wins and eight losses and an ERA of 3.72 in 23 games. Basically, he suffered from minor injuries again.

Apart from that, however, it was a season where he had to worry about the value of the pitch type. Analysts say that although he has a fast four-seam, he has a relatively clean feeling to hitters depending on his condition, and that breaking balls other than curves are not particularly tricky. Ryu Hyun-jin appeared on YouTube channel TVing Perfect League 24 on the 20th and pointed out that other team players also know that Moon Dong-ju’s four-seam and breaking ball pitching form are different.

In the video provided by TVing, Moon Dong-ju’s four-seam ball, arm swing angle and upper body height were clearly different. “Dongju has some difference in arm swing between a breaking ball and a fastball. Other team players tell Dong-ju, too. His arm swing is obvious. If other team players tell him something, he needs to fix it,” Ryu said.
In other words, the pitching mechanics need to be modified. This is also not as easy as it sounds. However, Ryu believes that he needs to be corrected similarly. One of the reasons for Ryu’s long run is that there is little difference in form between the four core and the main weapon change-up. It is still impossible to tell at bat.

Ryu believes that it is a problem as Kim Seo-hyun changes his form frequently. Kim Seo-hyun, who is in his second year, showed good performance by posting one win, two losses and 10 holds with an ERA of 3.76 in 37 games this year. He has established himself as a member of the must-win pitching group, and his visit to the national team also helped him adjust his form to a certain level. 메이저사이트

Kim Seo-hyun said, “It’s three quarters. When I threw with two postures as of debut, I was asked by the coaching staff to unify my form. As Kim suffered a slump while correcting arm height during the season, I returned to my original form after the inauguration of coach Kim Kyung-moon. Anyway, he seems to have found his form and his own this season. That is more important than performance.

Ryu Hyun-jin said, “Seohyun had a hard time before going down to the second division for a while in the middle of the season. He has a lot of thoughts. He looked good for a few days. Then he changed his form. I asked, ‘What’s wrong?’ And he said, ‘Senior, I can’t balance my body because I’m in this position all of a sudden.’

Then, Ryu said something to Kim Seo-hyun. “You really shouldn’t do that. I wish you can continue in one form. I told you that a lot.” Kim Seo-hyun needs to be consistent in the bullpen for the next one or two years to find his own average.

Ryu has no doubt that Moon Dong-ju and Kim Seo-hyun will surpass the best of the Hanwha Eagles to become the best starting pitcher and bullpen pitcher in the KBO league. Of course, Ryu will keep the mound for another seven years. However, when young pitchers such as Moon Dong-ju and Kim Seo-hyun show more stability, Hanwha is also expected to move out of the bottom ranks in their later years. If Ryu has the pillar and umbrella, he needs to upgrade his pitchers.
