Soon after winning the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Ahn Se-young (Samsung Life Insurance), who made a lot of determined remarks about the management of the Korean Badminton Association’s national team, recalled the situation at the time and expressed his inner feelings.
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) posted a video of Ahn on its official YouTube channel on Wednesday. Ahn, who recently visited Hangzhou in China for the HSBC Women’s Badminton World Tour Finals in 2024, had an interview with the BWF.
Ahn Se-young said, “At that time, I was in a situation to answer questions from reporters, but I had a hard time because I felt like I became the person who came to talk about the problems. I said it because I thought I could go in a good direction to improve what I lacked. I would have won or lost (the final).”
Despite Korea’s first gold medal in women’s singles in 28 years, the public’s eyes were on Ahn Se-young’s remarks, who complained about the Badminton Association’s management of national team players and training methods. 안전놀이터
Ahn Se-young said, “I didn’t think the wavelength would grow, but I don’t regret much for answering like that,” adding, “It was hard, but it’s okay to stand up with the help of many people.”
“After winning the (gold) medal, it’s a shame that I got criticized a lot rather than received a lot of congratulations. But I’m okay because I made such a situation,” he said. “I just want to enjoy (badminton). All I want to do is have fun, play good games, and enjoy it. I want to be a legend of badminton.”
Meanwhile, Ahn finished the season with a bronze medal at the BWF World Tour Finals 2024, which is a battle of kings.
