In the 1989 film Major League, the Cleveland Indians (now the Guardians) played their last regular league game against the New York Yankees.
Heize came to the batter’s box with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning with the score tied 2-2, and managed to steal the second base after walking. Heize’s surprise bunt from Taylor made it to the third base and home. With the dramatic victory, Cleveland won the district championship.
However, a real situation similar to the movie took place.
Cleveland faced the Yankees as in the movie in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series (ALCS, best of seven games) on the 18th (Korea time).
Cleveland Indians started the game with a two-run shot by pinch hitter John Kenzie Noel at the bottom of the ninth inning when the team was losing 3-5, and won the game 7-5 against the Yankees with David Fry’s two-run shot to end the 10th inning. The movie has become a reality.

The Cleveland Indians led 3-1 until the seventh inning. With two outs in the top of the eighth inning, when the Yankees’ Juan Soto walked and Aaron Judge took the batter’s box, Cleveland put Emmanuel Clase, the closing pitcher with 47 saves and an ERA of 0.61 this season. Judge hit a tying two-run shot over the right fence by pushing a cut fastball from Clase, who was driven low from the outside, in the unfavorable ball count of one ball and two strikes. Giancarlo Stanton then hit Clase’s slider to create an upset solo arch that slightly crossed the right-center wall.
In the top of the ninth inning, the Yankees added one more run with a sacrifice fly and were on the verge of winning.
However, Cleveland faced a counterattack in the bottom of the ninth inning. When Lane Thomas had a double to the left-center with two outs, pinch-hitter Noel kicked up a flat changeup by Yankees pitcher Weaver to send the ball over the left fence. It was a dramatic two-run shot.
In the bottom of the 10th inning, Cleveland produced a movie-like scene with two outs and runners on the third base. Friday’s main character Fry pulled the sinker of the Yankees’ Clay Holmes and made a two-run shot to the left-center field. That ended the game. 메이저놀이터
