LG Twins manager Yeom Kyung-yeop expressed his unusual anger. He was so emotional that he protested to referee Choi Soo-won that he threw a batch. He avoided leaving, but it was clearly a scene that made him tilt his head.
LG lost 5 to 9 in the 11th game of this season between the Hanwha Eagles and the Hanwha Eagles of the “2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League” held at Hanwha Life Eagles Park in Daejeon on Sunday. While leading the game 5-3, the team lost six runs en masse in the eighth inning.
LG sent out its ace, Elijah Hernandez, on the day. Since the ace pitcher took the mound in a five-game winning streak, he had to catch the ace pitcher unconditionally, and Hernandez met expectations by allowing quality start in just two games after his KBO league debut by pitching six hits (one homer) and no four strikeouts.
Even Hanwha fielders seemed to be helping LG. LG easily scored the first run thanks to the opponent team’s error in the top of the first inning. With one out, Shin Min-jae hit a triple to the left-center field. Hanwha left fielder Kim In-hwan made a relay play to shortstop Hwang Young-mook and Hwang Young-mook made a relay play to third baseman Moon Hyun-bin, leaving room for Shin to run home. As Shin added a shortstop error to the triple and scored, LG led 1-0.
In the top of the second inning, LG again scored thanks to an error. With one out, Kim got on base with a right double to the right field. As Park grounded out to the third base, it was doubtful whether he could reach second base with two outs. However, third baseman Moon Hyun-bin made a bad pitch error to the first base. Second baseman Kim Hyun-soo scored thanks to an error, and batter Park Dong-won went all the way to second base.
Moon Dong-ju, who gave up both of his first two runs by mistake, was greatly shaken. With one out and runners on second base, Park Hae-min fired a superior two-run shot and ran away 4-0. Park Hae-min hit a 155km/h fastball in the advantage of the ball count 2-0.
However, Yeom was furious at the top of the seventh inning when LG was leading 4-2. At bat with Moon Bo-kyung on the first and third bases with one out, Yeom rushed out of the dugout and began to appeal to the Hanwha Eagles referee, Kim Gyu-yeon. During the appeal process, Yeom was so excited that he attempted a deployment machine to the referee. The referee did not order Yeom to leave because he had no physical contact with him, but he did not have anything to say even if he did.
An LG official explained, “Coach Yeom Kyung-yeop appealed to Bork.”
When a manager takes such a big action that the referee is not willing to send off, it usually comes when a game mood needs to be changed. LG was winning 4-2, but needed to widen the gap a little more as it exhausted its must-win group in the course of five consecutive wins. However, Yeom could have felt frustrated as he failed to score any additional points after the first four points.
The balk appeal failed to yield substantial results. Moon Bo-kyung made a timely hit to the left to run 5-2 on the back of Hanwha left fielder Kim In-hwan’s error-prone play, but Oh Ji-hwan and Kim Hyun-soo failed to escape further as they only struck out a fly ball to the left field and a swing and miss, respectively, in the continuous opportunity with one out and runners on the first and second bases. 먹튀검증
The loss was huge for the team. LG started operating the bullpen from the bottom of the seventh inning, but Kim Jin-seong allowed one run in one inning, and when he allowed six runs in large numbers in the bottom of the eighth inning, three players – Lee Ji-gang (two runs in 0 innings), Kim Young-joon (four runs in ⅓ innings) and Kim Yoo-young (in ⅔ innings) – barely managed to stop the loss.
The process of collapsing in the eighth inning was the worst. With runners on the first and second bases with no outs trailing 5-4, Kim Young-joon was hit to the right by Chae Eun-sung. While Hanwha’s third base coach stopped second baseman Kim Tae-yeon at third base, Roh Si-hwan had already turned second and was heading to third base. It could have been done if other fielders had informed right fielder Hong of the situation quickly, but Hong belatedly threw the ball to second base rather than home. This gave Hanwha time to deal with the situation, and Kim Tae-yeon scored and Roh Si-hwan went all the way to third base. When Hanwha balanced 5-5, LG collapsed.
If LG had won six consecutive games on the day, it would have narrowed the gap to three games with the leading KIA Tigers. However, as the team collapsed due to Hanwha’s counterattack, it allowed the third-ranked Samsung Lions to catch up by 0.5 game difference. It was a truly painful and shocking defeat for LG.
