Korean baseball cheering culture is considered to be “collective, enthusiastic, and sympathetic.” Where did the atmosphere where foreigners fall in love with each other begin?
Bonghwangdaegi, which started in 1971 and has become the best high school baseball tournament called “Korea’s Koshien,” had a unique “Cheering Award” award. The standard of scoring is how hot each school’s cheering squad became one during the competition between schools. Of course, various cheering ideas must have poured out. Not only students but also faculty members were mobilized to relieve daily stress by shouting out loud victory slogans. 안전놀이터
There have been a total of six awards so far, including three for Bae Jae-ok (1976/77/86), two for Gyeonggi High School (1978/98), and one for Bukil High School (1987).
As time passed, the cheering at Bonghwangdaegi Baseball Stadium continued to evolve. Cheerleaders that appear naturally in various professional sports appeared, and early versions of “Sketchbook Cheering,” which are often seen on TV broadcast screens these days, were also introduced, and they could not stop Koreans’ passion to visit the baseball stadium by wearing masks during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is why we are looking forward to seeing what new “K Cheering” will come out in the 2024 competition.
