“Korea’s first star, Oh Sangwook.”a new history at the home of fencing

Oh Sang-wook’s dream gold medal in the individual event at the Olympics came from Grand Palais, the home of fencing, France, and Paris. Oh, who achieved the Grand Slam with this gold medal, has rewritten the history of Korean fencing.

Oh Sang-wook won the gold medal on the 28th (Korea Standard Time) by beating Fares Perjani (Tunisia) 15-11 in the individual fencing final of the men’s sabre at the event held in Grand Palais, Paris, France.
Oh won his first individual Olympic medal with a gold medal. He teamed up with his seniors for team gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics three years ago, but lost in the quarterfinals in the individual event. 유흥알바

With this gold medal, Oh achieved the grand feat of individual Grand Slam. He won back-to-back World Championships and Asian Championships in 2019, and also won individual gold at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year. He also won the Olympic gold medal on the day, taking the top spot in all four major competitions.

In Korean fencing, there has never been a case in which individual gold medals were used to win all major competitions. Several athletes, including Koo Bon-gil and Kim Jung-hwan, have won all four competitions, including team competitions, but Oh is the first player to win all of them in individual competitions.

Oh Sang-wook will decorate a page of Korean fencing with the title of “the first ever” over his seniors.
