“Knee surgery” Djokovic advances to third round of Wimbledon tennis men’s singles

Novak Djokovic (2nd, Serbia) reached the third round of the men’s singles (32nd round) at the Wimbledon tennis tournament (total prize money of 50 million pounds, about 87.5 billion won).

Djokovic defeated Jacob Fernley of England 3-1 (6-3 6-45-7 7-5) in the second round of the men’s singles on the fourth day of the tournament at the All England Club in London on the 4th (local time).

Djokovic, who aims to regain the hegemony of the tournament for the first time in two years since 2022, will compete with Alexei Popyrin (47th, Australia) for the round of 16.

Djokovic withdrew due to a knee injury ahead of the quarter-final of the French Open last month, making his participation in the tournament itself unclear.

In particular, he underwent surgery on his right knee immediately after withdrawing, with some predicting that he will skip Wimbledon and focus on preparing for the Paris Olympics, which will open later this month.
But Djokovic said, “It would have been difficult for me to participate in any other tournament, but I decided to participate because it’s Wimbledon, which I love.”

If Djokovic wins Wimbledon this year, he will achieve 25 singles wins, the most in major tournaments ever, and set a tie for the most wins in men’s singles at Wimbledon.

Roger Federer (retired, Switzerland) has won the most men’s singles titles at Wimbledon.

Djokovic said, “The speed has not yet reached the top,” adding, “I expect it to get better as we play.”

In the second round of the women’s singles, Iga Sibiontech (1st, Poland) defeated Petra Martic (85th, Croatia) 2-0 (6-4 6-3).

This year’s French Open champion Ciontech has the best record of the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.

Yuliya Putintseva (35, Kazakhstan) is the third-round opponent of Sibiontech, which has recently won 21 consecutive games.

Sibiontech and Putintseva have won all four games against each other.

Jessica Pegula (5th, USA) was beaten 1-2 (4th, China) by Wang Xinyu (42nd, China) (1-6).

Pegula, whose mother is Korean, rose to third place in the world rankings in 2022, but major competitions are weak compared to the world rankings as the quarterfinals are the best.

The second round match between Caroline Wozniacki (91st, Denmark) and Leila Fernandez (Canada), born in 2002, ended with Wozniacki’s 2-1 (6-3 2-67-5) victory. 핑크알바

Andy Murray (Britain), who played in men’s doubles in a group with his brother Jamie, lost 0-2 (6-7<6-8> 4-6) to Linky Hijikata-John Pearce (Australia) in the first round.

Murray left a mixed doubles match with Emma Raducanu (England) in the group.
