Longtime golf fans may not recognize the name Kim Siwon, 28.
For them, it’s Kim Min-sun5. The South Korean won her first KLPGA (Korean Ladies Professional Golf) Tour event in 2014 and went on to win one every year until 2017. With five career wins, including a victory at the 2020 McCall’s Yongpyong Resort Open, she has accumulated $2.757 billion in prize money so far this season. He is known for his refreshing long game.
Kim changed his name to Kim Siwon and returned to the tour this year after taking a medical leave of absence due to back pain in April last year, ending his season prematurely. However, she only made 12 cuts in 29 events and withdrew six times, finishing 89th on the money list. 캡틴토토 도메인
After finishing the season as he did, he would have to play a seeding match, but he chose to retire.
Kim Siwon caddied for his “best friend” Park Sung-hyun at the SK Shielders-SK Telecom Championship at Rabiebel Old Course (par 72, 6805 yards) in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, on Oct. 10. As a retired player, he was eager to play in what could be his last tournament. But instead of competing as a player, he chose to carry his friend’s golf bag.
“I decided to stop playing,” Kim said. My body was hurting and my golf wasn’t going the way I wanted it to, so I thought it was time to call it quits,” he said.
The news of his retirement came as a surprise to many, including Park Sung-hyun, who was entrusted with his golf bag at the tournament. “When I first heard about his retirement, I felt very sad. I still want him to play a little more. That’s why I can’t congratulate him,” he said with tears in his eyes.
It can’t be easy to leave the field you’ve been so passionate about. So are the hearts of the fans who have supported him.
But it won’t be long before we see him on the field again. He is preparing to start a new career as a “professional caddie,” a position that he has relied on for many of his tournaments. “Last year, when I took a break from the tour, I caddied for a fellow player, and it was fun and I seemed to have a knack for it,” says Kim. “I like helping others. I’m thinking about trying my hand at being a professional caddie.”
In the final round of the tournament on Dec. 12, Lim shot a 5-under-par 67 for a final total of 16-under-par 200 to win by five strokes over Lee Da-yeon. With the win, Lim recorded her fourth victory of the season, moving her past Lee Ye-won and Park Ji-young for the most wins. Kim Min-byul won the Rookie of the Year award over Hwang Yoo-min Bang Shin-sil.
Shin Sang-hoon won the LG Signature Championship on the Korean Professional Golf Association (KPGA) Korean Tour at Seowon Course (Par 72-7000), CC Valley, Paju, Gyeonggi-do, after a three-way playoff.
